In a significant milestone for the accounting profession in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ETICPA) has officially been Approved. The launch event, held on 14th March 2025 by the FDRE Peoples’ representatives with proclamation 1372/2025.
ETICPA’s formation comes at a critical time as Ethiopia continues to experience rapid economic growth and development following to the Home grown economic reform efforts. The institute aims to promote and uphold the highest standards of accounting, auditing, and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability in both private and public sectors. By providing a framework for professional development and certification, ETICPA seeks to empower accountants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the evolving financial landscape.

The A/Director General of Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia, Ato Fekadu Agonafer emphasized the importance of the institute in shaping the future of accounting in Ethiopia. “The establishment of ETICPA marks a new era for our profession. It is our commitment to fostering integrity, professionalism, and excellence among accountants, which will, in turn, contribute to the overall economic development of our nation,” he stated.
ETICPA will be responsible for establishing certification processes, continuing education programs, and ethical guidelines that align with international best practices. The institute aims to collaborate with educational institutions and industry experts to develop relevant training programs that address the specific needs of the Ethiopian market.

In addition to promoting professional standards, ETICPA will serve as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for the interests of accountants across the country. The establishment of the Ethiopian Institute of Certified Public Accountants is poised to strengthen the accounting profession, ultimately enhancing the economic framework of Ethiopia.
