The forum coordinated by the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank, is conducting following the establishing of an Ethiopia institution of Certified Professional Accountants, ETICPA. The initiative is taking place from June 19-21, 2025, and will involve professionals Accountancy Organization leaders from Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, and Kenya including the Pan African Federation of Accountants, PAFA leaders sharing their experiences.

The forum will be attended by high-level government officials, sector experts from various countries, and invited guests, and is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Addis Ababa.
In his welcoming speech, Dr. Eyob Tekalegn, the State Minister of Finance and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia, stressed the significance of a robust and competitive accountancy profession in the global arena.

He underscored the role of this institution in fostering the growth of accounting professionals in Ethiopia, which is essential for implementing necessary changes in the field. He also drew attention to the effects of the homegrown economic reform.
Maryam Salim, the director of the World Bank Division, said that preparing the consultation forum in a way that involves all stakeholders will create favorable conditions for the transfer of knowledge and work together.

In his presentation, Mr. Fekadu Agonafir, the A/Director General of the Board, AABE, discussed the board’s advancements and its historical significance in the accounting profession. He acknowledged that the profession has faced challenges in achieving adequate support and competitiveness, primarily due to the lack of a strong, recognized institution for accountants. He stressed the importance of establishing such an institution to enhance the profession and serve the public effectively, addressing ongoing challenges sustainably.

The forum featured discussions on diverse topics and experiences from various countries, and it will continue the next day.
