The practical operation of the Ethiopian Certified Professional Accountants would undoubtedly have paramount importance in helping the nation have reliable and modern financial system thereby boosting the national economic growth, so stated Finance Minister Ahmed Shidie.
The Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) has been undertaking myriads of activities with a view to creating reliable national financial system being the backbone of the finance trajectory.
As to him, creating reliable national financial system would be of significantly useful in fostering sustainable development feasible economic transformation.
“Though accountants and auditors received accreditation from foreign institutions earlier, the coming into being of the institute has been decisive to substitute such demand of receiving accreditation from abroad,” he added.
He further elucidated that the institute helps organizations ensure transparency and accountability in accounting industry, introduce audit and financial report evidences and let them grow.
He further stated that although many accountants are annually produced from various higher learning institutions, the number of certified accountants in Ethiopia is quite minimal. This institute would thus be of invaluable weapon to promote professional’s capacity and competence in terms of quantity and quality.

The Acting Director General of AABE and the Chair of the Interim Governing Council of ETiCPA, Ato Fekadu Agonafir on his part said launching the Ethiopian Institute of Certified Public Accountants has great meaning.
“We have met not just to celebrate the establishment of this vital institution, but to mark a significant milestone in the journey toward enhancing the professionalism of accountancy in our country and beyond. It is important to recognize the ongoing Homegrown Economic Reform under the Ministry of Finance and the Public Governance and Service Reform initiatives overseen by the Civil Service Commission of Ethiopia.”
As to him, these reforms are pivotal means for the realization of ETiCPA thereby improving efficiency, accountability, transparency and quality of services delivered in the public sector.
He said, “In today’s increasingly interconnected global landscape, Ethiopia is actively opening its economy to global markets, with our accession to the World Trade Organization nearing completion, and on the way to the realization of Africa’s Agenda 2063, the need for robust and high-quality accounting practices has been more invaluable.”

According to Fekadu, a stronger, more transparent accountancy profession means a stronger economy and a brighter future for the nation.
The event, he said, is a tool to call upon all to join hands with a view to embarking on the important journey Ethiopia has just commenced.
“This is a unique opportunity to learn from one another and to build lasting relationships that will benefit the society and strengthen accounting profession,” he opined.
The event was attended by Revenue Minister Aynalem Nigusies, Education Minister, Professor Berhanu Nega, National Bank Governor, Dr. Eyob Tekalign, other senior government officials as well as representatives of the World Bank & Austrian Ambassador in Ethiopia.
