Accountancy Profession Registration

The Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia is vested with multiple powers and duties by Proclamation No. 847/2014 and Regulation No. 332/2014, among which, to develop criteria for registration of professional accountancy body, professionals and firms that wish to provide accounting and auditing services to the public and issue licenses thereto. Accordingly, as it has become necessary to develop a system through which professional accountancy body established locally and in a foreign country may accredited and recognized respectively with the Board, this directive provides the criteria such associations of accountants need to fulfill to acquire the status.

In addition, it become necessary to lay down criteria to register and license professionals and firms who wish to provide accounting services to the public.

Renewal of Registration Certificate for Certified/Authorized Accounting and Auditing Firm

Renewal of Registration Certificate for Certified/Authorized Accounting and Auditing Firm

This service is provided by Accounting and Auditing board of Ethiopian for Renewal of Certificate of Registration for Certified/Authorized Accounting and Auditing Firm based on Directive No. 805/2021 

Who Can Apply for Renewal 

Anyone who have Registration Certificate of Certified/Authorized Accounting and Auditing Firm can apply.

Prerequisite

  1. Letter of good standing from a member of International Federation of Accountants, accredited or recognized by the Board or if you are Authorized Accountant/Auditor attach from local association.  
  2. Attach your Recent photo 3×4 only with a file type image.
  3. Attach your valid Practicing Certificate for Audit firm applicants only. 
  4. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at least 40 (forty) hours which has not lapsed a year, out of which 20 (twenty) hours/unit must be supported by evidence; List source of materials that you browse or read to upgrade your profession for the remaining 20 (twenty) hours.
  5. Attach Professional indemnity insurance agreement five hundred thousand Birr for Accounting Firm (500,000.00) and one million Birr (1, 000, 000.00) for Auditing Firm.
  6. If you are rendering Accounting or Auditing services as an individual, download continuity of practice agreement form from the E-Service instruction page, fill the form accordingly and attach.
  7. Download client list form from the E-Service instruction page, fill the form accordingly and attach.
  8. Attach a renewed business/trade license.
  9. Attach your valid contractual agreement of office rent authenticated by Document Authentication and Registration Service (DARS) or Equivalent Government office or ownership title deed. 
  10. Attach your previous AABE/Regional Certificate.  
  11. If you applied in this budget year for renewal of registration certificate for Accounting/Auditing firm, please type your Tracking Number in the space provided. (Note: For not paying the service fee twice.)
  12. In the previous fiscal year, if you paid twice and directed to attach for the next year renewal period, please attach your receipt in additional attachment.

Service Fee

Service payment fee birr 750 for accounting Firm, birr 780 for Auditing Firm, and birr 670 for partnership, based on invoice you received on the system (payment order) the payment shall be deposited via telebirr.

Issuance of Temporary Registration Certificate for Certified Accounting / Auditing firm

This service is provided by Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopian for Temporary Registration Certificate for Certified Accounting /Auditing firm based on Directive No. 805/2021

Who Can Apply

Anyone who have a membership of International Federation of Accountant (IFAC) can apply.

Prerequisite

  1. A document that shows a member of International Federation of Accountants or accredited or recognized by the Board,
  2. If you are Auditors Valid Practicing Certificate;
  3. Three years’ Work experience for accounting service and 2 (two) years of experience as an auditor in an external audit firm and out of this 1 (one) year as audit manager, after being a member of Professional accountancy body for Audit service,
  4. Two reference letters from his immediate supervisors in the organizations he worked for; or if he has worked only in one organization, two reference letters from his immediate supervisor and his colleague in the organization,
  5. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at least 40 (forty) hours which has not lapsed a year, out of which 20 (twenty) hours/unit must be supported by evidence, download the form, fill the form accordingly and attach;
  6. Renewed residence identification card/passport;
  7. One passport size photograph taken in the last six months;
  8. Confirm code of ethics 
  9. Service Fee birr 1150 for accounting Firm, birr 1330 for Audit Firm, and birr 970 for partnership the payment shall be deposited to AABE’s account number 1000393097667 in Commercial bank of Ethiopia and attach the slip;

Service Fee

Service payment fee birr 1150 for Accounting Firm, birr 1330 for Auditing Firm, and birr 970 for partnership, the payment shall be deposited to AABE’s account number 1000393097667 in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.

This service is provided by Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopian for Issuance of Certificate Of Registration For Certified Accounting/Auditing firm based on Directive No. 805/2021 

Who Can Apply

Anyone who have Temporary Registration Certificate of Certified/Authorized Accountant and Auditors can apply.

Prerequisite

Notice: – scan and attach the following requirement.

  1. Professional indemnity insurance agreement five hundred thousand Birr for Accounting Firm (500,000.00) and one million Birr (1, 000, 000.00) for Audit Firm;
  2. Business license;
  3. Contractual agreement of office rent authenticated by document authentication and registration office (DARA), or ownership title deeds;
  4. Job Resignation letter;
  5. If you are rendering accounting or Auditing services as an individual, a confirmation of Continuity practice agreement;
  6. If the firm is established as a partnership memorandum of association;
  7. Recent passport size (3X4) photo;
