Addis Ababa, December 25, 2025. The inaugural meeting of the founding members of the Ethiopian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ETiCPA) took place at the Grand Eliana Hotel in Addis Ababa.

In his opening remarks, Ato Fekadu Agonafer, the Acting Director General of the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) and Chairman of the Interim Governing Council (IGC) of the Institute, emphasized that the discussion aimed to address key priorities since the institute was established by Decree 1372/2025 and seven members of the IGC have been appointed and are actively working. He noted that various activities have been undertaken to operationalize the institute, paving the way for its future membership in the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

During the meeting, Mr. Solomon Negash, the Board’s legal executive, and Mr. Dereje Gelana, the project manager of the institute, presented updates on the establishment proclamation, current progress, and projected future activities.
Ato Fekadu highlighted that it is a significant opportunity for the founding members to be part of this initiative and stressed the urgency of addressing various challenges facing the profession in the country, while also seeking international recognition for the institute.

Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the establishment of the institute and their roles as founding members. They emphasized the importance of not only ensuring the institute gains international recognition but also quickly establishing a presence in the Ethiopian market to uphold national pride and serve the broader public interest.
